Vertical machining centers are machine tools used for metal cutting and are widely used in industries such as mold manufacturing and aerospace. Based on their structure and layout, vertical machining centers can be divided into the following main types:
1. Single-column VMC: This type of VMC is the most common. It uses a vertical column to support the spindle head, which is moved along the X and Y axes by movable guides. Due to its simple structure and ease of operation, it is ideal for precision machining of small parts.
2. Double-column VMC: Compared to single-column VMCs, double-column VMCs offer a larger workspace and greater rigidity. They use two vertical columns to support the spindle head and worktable, with movable guides enabling precise movement of the spindle head and workpiece. Due to their excellent stability and ease of mounting large workpieces, they are widely used in fields such as automotive manufacturing and shipbuilding.
3. Gantry VMC: The gantry type is the largest of the three types. It consists of a pair of parallel beams and two columns fixed to the ground to form a frame, forming a bridge-like structure. This type of vertical machining center is suitable for processing heavy parts and situations that require long-term continuous production.
